This timed writing was completed as part of the application process to ISF, which Brian transferred to in the fourth grade. He writes about his first grade sports day, which included over ten activities, including running, high jump, kickball, and basketball. Brian saw the sun like a fiery fireball at noon. He also saw the orange running track and green grass field. He could smell the saltiness of sweat and fragrant food. The first activity was a bean bag grab, with teams competing against each other. The next was “Octopuses and Seaweed,” in which those who acted as fish turned into seaweed when caught by octopuses. The students had a lot of fun and Brian caught everyone as an octopus. After lunch was running, and they had so much fun they did not want to leave. Brian believes that that was a perfect day.
