Brian wrote this poem in fourth grade, starting out with a simpler version of four lines. Unsatisfied with his first draft, he expanded upon his ideas and created a final version double the length of the original. The final version won “The Award of Excellence” in his school’s Love is all around the World Chinese Writing Competition.
Let Me Tell You, This World is Full of Love
Give me a seed, let me plant crops on barren mountains, people will no longer hunger.
Give me a tree sprout, let me change the desert into an oasis, a view of emerald green.
Give me a vacuum cleaner, let me vacuum away air pollution, return the coolness to the sky.
Give me a crane, let me build high-rise buildings, homelessness becomes history.
Give me a bucket of clear water, let homeless people no longer thirst, the heart refreshed.
Give me a police team, let them chase away all danger, we will protect lasting peace.
Give me a batch of vaccines, let diseases die out, we will camp happily.
Give me a team of doctors, let illness be forever absent, we will grow healthily.
Give me a trash can, let all litter disappear, the world clean and pretty.
Give me a textbook, let all knowledge be disseminated, everyone rich and varied.
Give me a full heart, let me forgive wrongs, no more growing pains.
Give you a hug, let me tell you, this world is full of love.
